EcoMuvi's Mission and Vision.     EcoMuvi's Mission and Vision.     EcoMuvi's Mission and Vision.

Who we are.

The EcoMuvi team consists of experienced professionals in sustainable development, reporting, and the adoption of environmental management systems, with extensive experience in audiovisual production. These skills enable us to fully understand the technical needs of the industry and integrate them with truly applicable sustainability strategies.

We assist every production in adopting the EcoMuvi standard through on-site support from dedicated personnel, the EcoMuvi Managers.

We work closely with all crew members to ensure the sustainable development of the project while also facilitating a complete understanding of the adopted strategy. This allows us to consistently seize the most virtuous opportunities without burdening the crew and departments with additional workload.

Our work is based on internationally recognized pillars of sustainability and refers to the core principles of the European objectives for the ecological transition of the 2030 agenda.

+10 years of industry expertise

For over a decade, the EcoMuvi sustainability standard has been embraced and validated by a wide range of stakeholders, including production companies, trade associations, streamers, suppliers, distributors, and industry institutions. In just the past three years, we’ve worked on 80+ projects, participated in numerous industry working groups, and collaborated with educational institutions through specialized training workshops.

Italy’s first sustainable development standard for audiovisual productions

EcoMuvi is the international standard for sustainable development in audiovisual productions, launched in Italy in 2013. It provides certification that meets the highest non-financial reporting standards, supported by the credibility and authority of audits and certifications from independent third-party Accredited Certification Bodies. Additionally, it is a protocol that can integrate with leading European and global calculators.

A versatile method, not just for the big screen

Thanks to its implementation and on-site auditing, we have adjusted and refined the Protocol to meet the real needs of sets and productions,  making it suitable for any audiovisual project. Today, it is a genuinely adaptable standard that can be customized for every feature film, short film, documentary, animation, advertisement, and audiovisual event.

Accredia Accreditation

The strength and reliability of the EcoMuvi standard is confirmed by its accreditation with ACCREDIA, Italy’s national accreditation body. This validation confirms that EcoMuvi meets the rigorous requirements of the international ISO 17020:2012 standard and aligns with European regulations under EC Regulation No. 765/2008, as well as the sustainability targets of UN Sustainable Development Goals.

The EcoMuvi
Story.

EcoMuvi is born, with the first version of the Protocol applied on the set of Paolo Virzì’s feature film Il Capitale Umano. It becomes the first feature film in Italy to earn sustainability certification by adopting the EcoMuvi standard.

2013

For the first time in Italy, the role of the EcoMuvi Manager is introduced. This professional becomes an integral part of audiovisual productions, managing sustainable practices and reporting as an active crew member, setting a new industry standard.

2016

In response to growing success on set and overall demand for sustainability from productions, the EcoMuvi standard is upgraded. It now covers environmental, social, and economic criteria, aligning with new European and international regulations. The standard is also extended to documentaries, commercials, short films, and music videos, broadening its application across various production formats.

2020

EcoMuvi updates its Protocol to include the post-production phase, ensuring comprehensive sustainability practices across the entire digital workflow, including virtual reality projects and the use of archival materials. This evolution enables deeper integration of sustainable methods from set to screen.

2021

Leveraging years of expertise and collaboration with digital studios, EcoMuvi develops knowledge towards the implementation of its standard for animation projects. Within the first year, over 10 domestic and international animated productions are certified using the expanded protocol.

2022

EcoMuvi reaches a significant milestone as its standard is accredited by ACCREDIA, Italy’s National Accreditation Body. This achievement elevates the EcoMuvi standard to the status of a recognized technical industry benchmark, validated at both national and European levels.

2023

We evaluate every aspect, in every production.

Planning of activities

To implement the EcoMuvi standard, every production activity is thoroughly analyzed and managed. Tailored guidelines are created for each department, adapted to the specific context and needs of the project, ensuring that all operational objectives align with the production house’s defined sustainability policy and budget lines.

Resource Management

In the preliminary assessments, all production resources are carefully evaluated to establish a sustainable action plan. We encourage conscious choices in the use of textiles, food, chemicals, as well as materials like timber, special effects components, and digital equipment. Additionally, intangible resources—such as location biodiversity, animal management, and the spatial planning of production sites—are taken into account to ensure a holistic approach to sustainability.

Resource Recovery and Waste Management

Thanks to a detailed and concrete action plan, all resources are managed with the aim of minimizing consumption and waste, while ensuring proper waste disposal. The circular economy is actively promoted through remanufacturing services, rental options, second-hand purchasing, and resale of materials after production concludes.

Energy Consumption

All energy needs and consumption for the production are planned based on both economic and environmental sustainability criteria. Specific strategies are developed to manage and optimize electricity use during filming and post-production. Likewise, fuel consumption is scrutinized, and energy plans are redesigned to reduce or eliminate reliance on fossil fuels, contributing to more sustainability in the production process.

GHG Emissions

EcoMuvi’s standard incorporates a wide range of environmental, social, and economic indicators to evaluate the project’s success, including greenhouse gas emission reductions for each production phase. Through comprehensive reporting and data analysis, we provide a clear overview of the production’s environmental impact—assessed on both quantitative and qualitative terms—without relying on carbon offset schemes or voluntary market credits.
